What is it about women and stockings? Years ago, this was used to hide the bare skin underneath. Now, it is more associated with wearing something intimate while going out that will usually attract the attention of men. Wearing stockings has been going in since the 1940's. From colors that were usually available in nude or black, there are now variations in red, pink, blue, white and others.
